Kaspersky Antivirus Banned in the US

US Government Bans Kaspersky Labs Products

Is Kaspersky Antivirus Banned in the US? On June 2024, the US Government through the department of commerce issued an official announcement about their determination to ban Kaspersky Labs products and any company associated with them that provides antivirus software and cybersecurity products or services in the United Sates or to any American citizen. Those products are now considered spyware which is kind of shocking, specially to those using the software within their networks. This triggered a high risk situation for data security. Everything started back in 2017 when the Government banned the use of these products in federal networks and devices.

Several political situations have been developing involving Russia and for this reason a final decision was made and finally have Kaspersky Antivirus leaving the US market.

At Blue & White Technologies we used Kaspersky for many years in the last decade and also several of our customers did, some of them are still using it, and we had good results from the protection perspective. We never experienced data breaches or virus infections in the networks we serve while working with their protection software.

Are Kaspersky Products Russian?

Yes, Kaspersky Labs is a Russian multinational cybersecurity and antivirus provider headquartered in Moscow, Russia, and operated by a holding company in the United States located in Woburn, Massachusetts.

The company has announced plans to leave the US market owing to the Biden administration’s ban on the sales and distribution of the firm’s software.

Kaspersky Banned by September 30th 2024

The date established by the US government is really close, remember, by the end of September 2024 updates won’t be delivered to Kaspersky users, which means a real problem, so our recommendation is to remove Kaspersky software and switch to another security solution.  Several US firms stopped recommending Kaspersky’s products, though some of them are still evaluating its efficacy. There are many good antivirus alternatives in the market and we are currently having very good results particularly in two of those available.

Replace your Kaspersky Licenses

If you still have Kaspersky licenses installed in your networks, replace them as soon as possible. When the updates are not pushed any more to your devices, the risk of successful cyberattacks is extremely high. You don’t want your companies at risk.

      Hi John,
      Thank you for your comments.
Kaspersky software updates will be delivered until 12:00AM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on September 29, 2024.
After that date your protection system will be outdated. Our recommendation is to replace it as soon as possible.
